Steve Pearse, a veteran of 19 years of coaching experience, returns for his fifth year as an assistant coach for the Pacific Tigers for the 2008 season. Coach Pearse is the primary recruiter for the Tigers, landing the Sacramento and San Diego area Players of the Year during the 2007 signing period. Pearse also works with infielders and has brought a focus on fundamentals to Pacific in his five seasons, helping the Tigers post a program best .967 fielding percentage in 2005. Pacific also turned the second most double plays in team history during 2005 with 66.

Pearse came to Pacific after spending the 2003 season with Long Beach State as a volunteer assistant coach. The previous 10 years (1993 to 2002), Pearse was the second assistant coach at Fresno State. In 1992, Pearse was an assistant for the California Golden Bears College World Series (CWS) squad that went 35-28. During those 12 years as a coach at the Division I level, Pearse's teams made nine appearances in the NCAA Regionals and one CWS appearance.

From 1989 to 1991, Pearse was an assistant to his father, Tom, at Laney College in Northern California. Laney advanced to the Junior College playoffs each of his three seasons and won the conference championship in 1989.

As a player, Pearse was a two-year letterman for Fresno State in 1987 and 1988, earning third team All-America honors in 1988. As the Bulldogs' second baseman in 1988, he helped Fresno State to a school-record 56 wins and a CWS appearance. Pearse hit .338 in 1987 and .381 in 1988. In 1994, Pearse was inducted into the FSU Baseball Hall of Fame. After signing as a free agent following the 1988 season, Pearse played one year in the Montreal Expos' minor league system.

Pearse earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from San Francisco State in 1991 and got his master's degree from Saint Mary's in Health/Physical Education/Recreation in 1993. Pearse and his wife of 14 years, Melissa, have two daughters, Mikayla (10) and Cassandra (6).
