PACIFIC TAKES 5TH PLACE AT THE UCSB/E-BAR TOURNAMENT

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Pacific men's volleyball team dropped UC Irvine in four games on Saturday, January 8, to take fifth place at the 41st Annual UCSB/E-Bar Tournament. With the win the Tigers improved to 3-1 overall while the Anteaters dropped to 2-3 on the season.

Game scores for the match were: 30-26, 21-30, 30-28, 31-29.

On the night, senior Brain Zodrow (Kaneohe, Hawaii) paced the Tiger offensive attack setting a new career-high mark with 26 kills on 43 swings. Zodrow ended the match with 27 points as he added one dig and two blocks. Seniors Mauricio Brizuela (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Nils Dauburs (Riga, Latvia) each added double-digit kill totals for Pacific as Brizuela ended with 14 kills while Dauburs put down 10.

Sophomore setter Mitch Hazelett (Roanoke, Ind.) was one assist shy of 50 assists for the match while leading the Tigers to a .356 hitting percentage, including a .643 hitting percentage in game one. Hazelett also set a new career-best with three service aces and tied his previous career-high with six digs. The Tigers finished with seven aces and 23 digs on the night.

For the Anteaters, Jayson Jablonsky led the team with 22 kills on 35 attempts. Two other UC Irvine hitters had double-digit kills as Jon Steller and David Smith each added 17 and 14 kills, respectively.

The Tigers will next be in action on Tuesday, January 11 as they come back to the Alex G. Spanos Center for their home opener against Stevens Institute of Technology. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
