No. 11 Pacific Falls to No. 10 UC Irvine in Four Sets

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 11 Pacific men's volleyball team dropped to 9-7 overall and 3-5 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action with a four-set loss at No. 10 UC Irvine (6-9, 4-6 MPSF) on Friday, Feb. 18. Set scores were 30-26, 30-22, 28-30, and 30-19.
UC Irvine jumped out to an early one set lead in the match behind a .429 (18-3-35) team hitting percentage in set one. The Anteaters then held Pacific to a .071 (10-8-28) team hitting average in set two to win the set, 30-22.
The Tigers rebounded in set three, pounding 17 kills with just three errors in 26 attacks (.538) to claim the set, 30-28. UC Irvine closed out the match with a 30-19 victory in set four, outhitting the Tigers .520-.143 in the set.
Senior Nils Dauburs (Riga, Latvia) led Pacific with a team-high 15 kills on the evening. Seniors Mauricio Brizuela (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Brian Zodrow (Kaneohe, Hawaii) were also in double figures in kills for the Tigers with 11 and 10, respectively.
Jayson Jablonsky recorded a match-high 18 kills for UC Irvine.
Pacific returns to action with a conference match at top-ranked UCLA on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m.
