Stockton, Calif. - The No. 11 Pacific men's volleyball team defeated UC San Diego in three sets on Wednesday, February 23. The win was the Tigers' 25th consecutive win over the Tritons all-time and improved Pacific to 10-8 overall and 4-6 in the MPSF. The Tritons fell to 0-13 overall and 0-12 in conference play.

Set scores for the match were: 30-23, 30-25, 30-19.

The Tigers trailed early in the match falling behind in the opening set, 11-10. From that point on, Pacific took control of the set and the match, breaking open the game with a 10-3 run.

Set two was similar to the first as it saw both teams go back-and-forth to a 10-10 tie. Senior Brian Zodrow (Kaneohe, Hawaii) pushed the Tigers to the win with eight of his match-high 17 kills in the set.
 

 

Pacific finished out the match, dominating the third set to start by winning the first six points. UC San Diego battled back to bring the set within three points at 17-14, but the Tigers pulled away again and closed out the match with a 13-5 run.

On the night the Tigers were able to hold the Triton hitters to just .048 hitting, including .000 in the third and final set. Pacific was able to hit .316 on the night, improving in each set.

Zodrow finished the match with 17 kills, the lone attacker to put down double-digit kills. He added two aces and five blocks to finish the night with 21.5 points. Senior Nils Dauburs (Riga, Latvia) had a relatively quiet night hitting with just seven kills, However, Dauburs provided five aces and six blocks for Pacific. Freshman Simon Chen-Byerley (Northfield, Ill.) posted six blocks of his own as well.

For the Tritons, Brenden Bowe led the team with seven kills on .125 hitting. No Triton attacker hit over .200 for the match.

The Tigers will next be in action as they play host to the No. 5 Long Beach State 49ers on Friday, February 25. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
