Marko Popovic finished his impressive playing career as a Tiger at the end of the 2005 season, but has since stayed on with the team to help head coach Mike Maroney from the side of the pool as his top assistant. In his first year as an assistant coach for the team, the Tigers finished the season with an overall record of 16-17, which earned them an end of the season ranking of seventh in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's national poll.

Before helping the team as an assistant coach, Marko spent two years in the cage for the Tigers. During his senior season, he led the MPSF in saves (276), earning him honorable mention All-MPSF and All-American honors. In the 2005 MPSF Tournament, Popovic amassed 31 saves in the Tiger's three tournament games, with 11 of those saves coming in man-down situations. He now sits fifth among the Tigers' all-time saves leaders for saves in a career with 401, an impressive accomplishment for only playing with the team for two seasons.

Prior to his stint as a Tiger, Marko attended two years at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, Calif., where he competed in both swimming and water polo. As a goalie, Marko compiled a 30-30 overall record, and he led the Pirates to a conference record of 7-3 in his two years with the team. As a freshman, Marko earned All-American first team honors, all-conference first team status, and was the team MVP. During his sophomore season, he was again named a first team All-American, he earned first team all conference honors, and was named the team's MVP.

Popovic was born in Belgrade, Serbia, and earned his degree in International Business from Pacific in 2006. He is now continuing his education as he is working towards earning his MBA.
