Tiger Men's Water Polo Head Coach Maroney Resigns
Nov. 30, 2007
Stockton, Calif. - University of the Pacific men's water polo head coach Mike Maroney has announced his resignation to take the head coaching positions of men's water polo and men's and women's swimming at Delta College. Director of Athletics Lynn King will begin a national search immediately.
"I have really enjoyed my time at Pacific," said Maroney. "It is definitely a great opportunity at Delta College, but it is with mixed emotions that I leave Pacific. It's nice to stay in the Stockton community. I've spent the last five years building the Pacific Water Polo Club, and I am happy to continue the relationships with those families. I look forward to the challenges of coaching water polo at Delta College, but also getting back my roots of swimming as well."
"We all appreciate Mike's efforts as our men's water polo coach and aquatics director," said King. "We wish him the very best in his new position."
Maroney coached the Tigers for five seasons, compiling a record of 62-84. He has coached players that have earned six All-America awards, and eight All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors. The 2007 All-America awards have not been announced at this time. Maroney graduated from Pacific in 1993 and was the team captain for both the swimming and water polo teams while he was a student-athlete at Pacific.
Maroney takes over at Delta College for Larry Huiras, who is retiring after 26 years as head coach for men's water polo and men's and women's swimming.
