Tigers Fall To No. 13 Cal
Sept. 26, 2004
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific women's soccer team dropped their second consecutive game as they fell to No. 13 California, 5-0, on Sunday, Sept. 26. With the loss the Tigers drop to 4-3-2 on the season while the Bears improve to 7-1-1.
Trying to knock off their second ranked team this season, the Tigers were unable to find the scoring touch that they have had for most of the non-conference schedule. On the day, Pacific was outshot 17-11 with four shots on goal to the Bears 10.
In a game overwhelmed by physical play, the Tigers gave up five goals to the visiting team. After a back-and-forth opening 20 minutes, the Bears got on the board on a goal by Sierra Schlesinger. Schlesinger found herself with a clear look at the net after a quick restart by the Bears on a penalty just outside the Tigers penalty box. Ten minutes later, Schlesinger netted her second goal of the match to put the Bears up two goals. She would later add a third goal for the hat-trick in the 49th minute. Liz Eisenberg netted the third goal of the first half in the 35th minute and Stephanie Wieger had the Bears final goal in the 68th minute.
Sophomores Carmen Padilla (San Jose, Calif.) and Jennifer Smiley (Carmichael, Calif.) had a game-high four shots each with Padilla firing two shots on goal. This was the Tigers first game being shutout this season.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, October 1, as they begin Big West Conference play versus the Idaho Vandals. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
