Box Score

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific women's soccer team came within inches of remaining perfect in Big West Conference action, but settled for a 0-0 tied with Utah State on Sunday, Oct. 3. The draw moved the Tigers to 5-3-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the Big West, while the Aggies are now 3-7-1 on the season and 0-1-1 in conference.

For the second consecutive game, and second time in Big West play, the Tigers were able to hold their opponents scoreless, earning their third shutout of the season. However, this time, the Tigers were unable to find the back of the net, despite outshooting the Aggies 12-8 on the day.

The Tigers defenders came up big once again as sophomore Kelsey Nagel (Lynnwood, Wash.) kept the scoreless draw intact, clearing out a bouncing shot that would have otherwise been in the net. Freshman Jaime Souza (Gig Harbor, Wash.) had five saves on the day while playing all 110:00 minutes. Despite statistically showing only four save, Souza played probably her best game of the season, coming out of the box to clear potential breakaway balls on multiple occasions.

Offensively, the Tigers pressured the Aggies in spurts, at one point earning three consecutive corner kicks. On the day, Pacific had 12 corners to Utah States two. Possibly the best chance of the game for the Tigers came in the 74th minute as sophomore Carmen Padilla (San Jose, Calif.) found herself loose on the left side of the box. However, the open shot was saved by Megan Mills of Utah State, one of her five on the day. For the game, Padilla recorded three shots with two on goal. Overall, Pacific was led by redshirt sophomore Suzy Peterson (Granite Bay, Calif.) as she fired off four shots throughout the contest, and was the most steady presence on the field for the Tigers in the midfield.

Offensively for the Aggies, Chanel Blaquiere led the way with three shots with two on goal while Charlsie Harris and Charity Weston each had two shots with one on goal.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, October 8, as they travel to Long Beach, Calif. to take on the Long Beach State 49ers. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
