Pacific Moves Unbeaten Streak To Four
Oct. 10, 2004
IRVINE, Calif. - The Pacific women's soccer team finally got their offense back on track, beating UC Irvine 2-1 on Sunday, October 10. The win extended the Tigers unbeaten streak to four games while improving their overall record to 6-3-4 and their Big West record to 2-0-2. The loss dropped the Anteaters to 3-9-2 overall and 0-4-0 in conference.
After shutting out their opponents for three straight conference games, the Tigers finally relinquished their first goal of the Big West season. However, Pacific finally found the back of the net after being held scoreless themselves over their last two contests.
It took half the game and a one goal deficit for the Tigers to get rolling, but in the second half of the game Pacific came out firing, outshooting UC Irvine 9-5. Scoreless in the Tigers last five games, sophomore Carmen Padilla (San Jose, Calif.), the Tigers leader in all offensive statistical categories this season, netted the equalizer for Pacific in the 52nd minute. Padilla took a deflection in the box and fired it past the Anteaters keeper for her sixth goal of the season and first conference goal in 2004.

Just over 20 minutes later, senior Sadye Reish (Placenta, Calif.) put the Tigers ahead for good, netting the eventual game-winner on a cross from Padilla. The goal was Reish's first of the season. With her three assists on the season, Reish has five points. Padilla added to her team lead in points and assists with her sixth assist of season giving her 18 points (6G 6A).
Freshman Jaime Souza (Gig Harbor, Wash.) and the rest of the Tiger defense gave up their first goal of the conference season, but played well giving up just four shots on goal. On the day the Tigers outshot the Anteaters 13-10, but more importantly had a +6 SOG advantage at 10-4. The lone goal for UC Irvine came in the 24th minute as Frankee Kelly knocked in a deflection off of her teammate, Kim Conlan.
The Tigers will look to continue their unbeaten conference streak on Friday, October 15, as they come home to face Cal State Fullerton. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
