Tigers Fall At Home To Fullerton, 3-1
Oct. 15, 2004
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific women's soccer team was not able to keep their four game unbeaten streak intact on Friday, October 15, as they fell to the visiting Cal State Fullerton Titans, 3-1. With their first conference loss of the season, the Tigers fall to 6-4-4 overall and 2-1-2 in Big West play while the Titans improve to 6-7-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference.
The Tigers never could find their rhythm throughout the game as they were on the defensive for most of the night. Overall, the Titans outshot the Tigers 28-6, with 19 of their shots coming in the second half.
The lone glimpse of brilliance for the Tigers offensively came with five second left in the half as sophomore Carmen Padilla (San Jose, Calif.) and freshman Mandi Van Dorn (Danville, Calif.) orchestrated a seamless give-and-go play that resulted in Padilla's seventh goal of the season and the Tigers equalizer in the game. The goal increased Padilla's season point total to 20 (7G 6A). Despite the sudden momentum shift heading into half, Pacific was unable to get on track, relinquishing two second half goals.

Cal State Fullerton was able to outplay the Tigers on the backs of Kandace Wilson and Lisa Kosena as the duo combined for 11 shots and all three Titan goals. Wilson scored Fullerton's first goal of the game while Kosena netted the eventual game-winner in the 70th minute of play. Wilson put in an insurance goal with 20 seconds to play as she was able to take advantage of the Tigers going for the equalizer by pulling freshman Jaime Souza (Gig Harbor, Wash.) up out of net and into the fray of a Pacific corner. When the ball was finally cleared, Wilson found herself on a breakaway counterattack into an open net.
On the night, Souza played another strong game despite giving up three goals. Souza recorded six saves on the Titans 28 shots while her counterpart, Karen Bardsley recorded two saves on six Tiger shots.
The Tigers will look to get back on track on Sunday, October 17, as they take on UC Riverside at Stagg Memorial Stadium. Game time is 12:00 pm.
