Tigers Eliminated From Post-Season Play
Oct. 29, 2004
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Pacific women's soccer team had their post-season aspirations come to an end on Friday, October 29 as they fell to Cal State Northridge, 2-0. With the loss the Tigers drop to 7-5-6 overall and 3-2-4 in the Big West while the Matadors improve to 12-5-3 overall and 6-3-0 in conference. The loss leaves the Tigers as the odd man out of the Big West championship tournament as Cal Poly earned a victory over Utah State earlier in the day, ensuring them the fourth and final spot in the tournament.
Not for a lack of trying, the Tigers were shutout for the second consecutive game despite firing off 13 shots on the day. Pacific was outshot on the score sheet, 21-13 but only 7-6 in shots on goal. Five Tigers were credited with two shots on the day, while sophomore Suzy Peterson (Granite Bay, Calif.) led the Tigers with two shots on goal.
Sophomore keeper Laura Guerin (Swampscott, Mass.) saw her shutout streak end at 250:00 minutes as Northridge netted the eventual game-winner just over five minutes into the game. Michelle McCollum was able to get free behind the Tigers' defense and fire a shot from 10 yards out. The Matadors added their second goal in the 70th minute of the game as Suzanne Mischenko took a feed from Brianna Monka and placed her shot into the upper left corner of the goal.
The Tigers will end their 2004 campaign on Sunday, October 31, as they take on the UC Davis Aggies at home in Stagg Memorial Stadium. Pacific will honor their class of 2004 during the team's final home game. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
