Pacific Splits Opening Day Games

STANFORD, Calif. - The Pacific softball team opened its 2005 season with a 4-0 victory over Santa Clara (1-3) and a 5-0 loss to No. 5 Stanford (3-0) in first day action of the Stanford Mini Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 5.
After two scoreless innings in the Tigers' season opener against Santa Clara, Pacific plated three runs in the top of the third inning on a Michelle Anunciation (Chino Hills, Calif.) three-run home run. Junior Crystal Presson (Livermore, Calif.) singled home sophomore Lizzie Hagen (Anaheim, Calif.) in the top of the seventh as the Tigers went on to the 4-0 win.

Senior Natalie King (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was nearly flawless in the circle for Pacific, allowing just three hits and one walk while going the distance for the shutout.
Jerrica Castagno took the loss for Santa Clara to fall to 1-2.
Pacific battled Stanford through four scoreless innings in the nightcap, before the Cardinal scored three times in the fifth and twice in the sixth.
Junior Kristen Allen (Citrus Heights, Calif.) pitched into the sixth inning for Pacific, yielding five earned runs on 11 hits and one walk to fall to 0-1.
Laura Severson pitched a two-hitter for Stanford to improve to 2-0.
Anunciation led all Pacific batters on the day with a combined 3-for-6 performance with a home run and three RBI.
Pacific closes out Stanford Mini Tournament competition with games against Santa Clara at 11 a.m. and Stanford at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6, at Smith Family Stadium.
