Dave Johnson is in his sixth season as an assistant coach at Pacific and his third as the top assistant for the Tigers. The longest tenured women's volleyball coach at Pacific, Johnson oversees all video-related duties for the Tigers women's volleyball program and assists in all phases of recruiting, practice and pre-match preparation for the Tigers.
During his first four seasons at Pacific (2002-2005), Dave was the second assistant. Prior to the 2006 season, he earned a promotion to the top assistant position.Dave was instrumental in the development of All-Americans Jennifer Joines (2000-2003), Hayley Anderson (2004) and Sidney Bennett (2004). In each of Johnson's first three seasons at Pacific, Dave helped guide the Tigers to NCAA appearances.
A volunteer assistant coach at Stanford from 2000-2002, Johnson's primary responsibilities for the Cardinal included the handling of video and scouting analysis, as well as assisting in all phases of training, pre-match scouting, and practice. Johnson was part of the Stanford 2001 National Championship coaching staff.
Dave also worked as a volunteer assistant coach with USA Volleyball (1999-2000), where he was primarily a practice player and assisted in the training of the athletes. In addition, Johnson served as a volunteer assistant coach at Sacramento State from 1998-99.
From 1996-99, Johnson was the assistant director of the High Voltage Volleyball Club in Sacramento, Calif. With that club program, he was the head coach of the girls' 18 and 16 year-old teams.
Johnson's coaching career began almost immediately after his playing days ended as Dave was the head coach of the UC Davis men's volleyball club team from 1995-98. At the time, the Aggie program was one of the highest level collegiate club programs in the country. In addition, Johnson served as the head women's volleyball coach at Dixon High School from the fall of 1996 through the fall of 1998.
As a student-athlete, Johnson graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a minor in exercise science (sports psychology). He played at UC Davis from 1993-95 as the starting setter. He was also a setter at the U.S. Olympic Festival in 1994 in St. Louis, Mo. and in 1995 in Boulder, Colo.
Johnson also serves as the club director for Club Pacific Volleyball.
Dave and his wife, Kristy, a former collegiate volleyball player at Tulane, were married on July 23, 2005. The couple welcomed their first child, Riley Christine, during the spring of 2008. The happy family resides in Elk Grove, Calif.
